Mica
Responsibly-Sourced
Earth-derived silicate minerals included in products to give them sparkle and shine as well as varying degrees of opacity. The amount and look of the shine mica provides depends on the color and how finely it’s milled for use in liquid, cream, or powder products. It is considered safe for use in cosmetics, including those applied to the eyes and lips.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists mica as a color additive exempt from certification. Mica is safe for use in coloring products, including cosmetics and personal care products applied to the lips, and the area of the eye. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel, a group that evaluates the safety of skincare and cosmetic ingredients, has deferred the evaluation of mica because safety has been assessed by the FDA.
Mica can come under fire for its sourcing. In recent years, many groups have stepped forward to help regulate and observe mica mining and sourcing all over the globe to ensure it’s being done safely, securely, and globally-responsibly.
Mica used in AMBITCHOUS products is sourced through groups affiliated with the RMI. We have confidence in the quality and ethical responsibility of all of our mica.
